The character Shrek was made popular in 1990 when the fairy tale picture book Shrek! first came on the market, followed by the film in 2001. The main characters are Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona, Lord Farquaad (the villain), Robin Hood, Gingerbread Man, Geppetto (the magic mirror) Pinocchio, the three pigs, the three blind mice and the Big Bad Wolf. Adults and children alike adored the film. Eventually several more Shrek films followed including Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After the final chapter.
